Choosing a garage floor coating that survives a Utah winter

Prep decides the outcome

A coating is only as good as the profile underneath it. Grinding the slab open — rather than acid etching it — gives the resin somewhere mechanical to key into. That one step separates a floor that lasts a decade from one that peels in a season.

Flake vs. metallic

Flake systems hide imperfections and give you grip, which is why they dominate working garages and shops. Metallic systems are a finish decision: they read like poured stone and belong somewhere you want the floor to be the feature.

Ask about the topcoat

The topcoat does the actual work of resisting salt, UV and tires. Polyaspartic topcoats cure fast and hold their color; cheaper systems yellow and chalk.
